PearBudget: Like Not Getting Kicked In the Shin

Just want to give a shoutout to Brian Prentiss, one of our West Coast users. Total rockstar. Why? Three reasons:

  1. He and his wife (and their beautiful family!) want to give more money to worthy causes. Awesome.
  2. His music recommendations are really good (one of his recommendations is Vampire Weekend, who happened to be the band that auto-loaded on Pandora when I logged on this morning).
  3. He and his wife are using PearBudget to track their spending.

After trying entering receipts into an Excel-based budget, and after trying a laissez-faire “spend less money” approach (neither of which worked for them), they gave PearBudget a shot. Before PearBudget, Brian noted that “I’ve always thought that entering receipts into the computer is about as pleasurable as a kick in the shin.” We’re pretty happy that we alleviated that pain. He notes that the simple view of what you have left in each category, and the presence of the sparkbars (those green “percentage remaining” lines on the review page) really help them know what’s available. Also, PearBudget’s web-based-ness means that both he and his wife are able to see their budget, and can tell what money is available in each category.

Thanks for the review, Brian!
